Named after Indian/British hunter cum conservationist, Jim Corbett was the first national to fall under Project Tiger initiative by the Government of India. Stretched over 201 sq miles of diverse landscapes like rivers, hills, grasslands, and lakes, the national park is well located in the sub-Himalayan state of Uttarakhand with elevations from 1300 to 4000 ft. Around 75% of the park is covered under dense forests with over 50 mammal species, 25 reptile species, 580 bird species and 110 types of trees. Jim Corbett National Park is one of the 13 regions in India and Nepal and is covered under the Terai Arc Landscape Program by WWF. The program is aimed to preserve Bengal Tiger as well as flagship species like the Indian Rhinoceros and Asian elephants with forest corridors.
